Jim McDonnel in his studio.

About Jim McDonnel the artist.

Jim McDonnel was born and raised in South Texas as the oldest of 9 children. He began sketching at an early age as well as playing around on the old Etch a Sketch toy. Learning to draw on that toy requires excellent hand/eye coordination and Jim is still a member of the Etch a Sketch Club.

This self taught artist has dabbled in many different artistic mediums over the years. Watercolor, acrylics, oils, airbrush, pen and ink, carving with chainsaw, and now....mostly pencils. After a 23 year career at Dow Chemical in Freeport and driving trucks for the next 10 years, Jim has settled down in Baytown to finish out his work career at LCY Elastomers.

Jim stays busy with wife Cindy, and 3 wonderful granddaughters.

While battling cancer beginning in 2008, Jim seriously picked up the pencil and organized a nice studio while recuperating. This gave him solitude and a personal workspace to complete projects. He has taught art classes at the local schools a few times to his granddaughters art classes. Teaching about perspective and light/dark values are some of the subjects discussed and demonstrated.

Using the Internet to network, Jim has sold many pieces to people all over the country. Right now, a few of Jim's favorite original pieces have been reproduced into limited edition, signed and numbered prints. These prints are limited to only 50 copies each. To contact Jim for consignments or prints of original works, send an email via the link below or call  281-515-3862.
